My introduction to Paris, France: I was on tour. I had woken up in Dover, England, feeling fluish/coldish and generally was quite angry at myself. I had come all the way to England from Canada and was now heading to my first gig in Paris and I was sick??? This was a part of hell I had never considered.
While on the ferry, I received some cold medication from my tour manager and soaked in the feeling of the Channel. When I could see France in the distance, I was practically willing myself to feel better.
We eventually arrived at the venue downtown Paris and I could see how large it was and thought, "Mon Dieu! We will never fill this place as no one knows us here at all."
Then while soundchecking, the American band we were doing some shows with ate our rider (i.e. they ate the food the venue supplies for the acts).
At this point, I was flipping out. We were living on 15 Euros/day and Paris is very expensive. Luckily I found some "fast-food" Italian pasta... and my mood started to shift. I'd just eaten the greatest food I'd ever tasted (on tour). I wandered back to the gig and it was lined up around the block.
Things were looking up.
The gig was amazing and some friends from our drummer's main band from Toronto had flown in to see the gig and do some sightseeing. One of their buddies (who was attending university in Paris) made quick friends and we wound up checking out the nightlife in Paris afterwards. Luckily, Anna seemed to know every back door and every security person so we could walk through anywhere.
By 7AM, we were drinking wine at a MORNING WINE BAR* across the river from the Louvre. It was all as magical and mystical as you could imagine Paris to be, and so naturally, on the drive to the next gig in Luxembourg, I composed this song.
Subsequently, we have made two videos (in English and in French) at Digital Canaries in Hamilton, Canada -who built a French cafe for our video.
This particular recording was created in Toronto with my friend Mark Zubek of Zedd Records and also featured Cortnee Pope, who I feel did a stunning job of co-singing this song. Her joke later was "F this Anna person!" lol.
*To a North American, this seems not just decadent but insane. Yet...

lyrics
this race against time.
not a moment too soon.
i wasted my whole life not knowing you.
in the paris of love where the heart rages past.
no it’s never enough. it all moves too fast.
when we first met, already in love we were.
how soon we forget. i could never know for sure.
in the paris of love where the heart rages past.
no it’s never enough. it all moves too fast.
Anna please
Anna please
because i want you.
