Maybe 2-3 days after Dan Konopka (OK Go) recorded his drum parts for this track, I was brutally assaulted downtown Hamilton by a meth addict. My face is permanently scarred and I only survived this beating because a whole pile of people ran across the street and pulled me into a fast food place where I laid down in a pool of my own blood. It was wildly gruesome and horrific and I certainly would not wish this on anyone on Earth.
Then poor Dan who has just put his heart and soul into recording this song with lyrics about a smashed-in face and all this. He immediately contacts me from California once he realizes how much my face has been re-arranged and is thinking, "Holy God! The Russians? The Antifa? The Supremacists? The President??"
Like this was a targeted hit job straight out of Hollywood movies!
I tell you what. It was just bad timing and good luck that people in Hamilton, Ontario, gave enough of a care to jump in and help. I still feel badly for my assailant that his life led him to a point that he felt murdering a random person on the street was a "good idea". If it had not been me (tall and strong), it might have been a dead person. One of the girls who was yelling at him explained to me that he had tried to assault her earlier. Some people... Again, just read the lyrics and enjoy!!
lyrics
and you find yourself face down in the gutter
with a smashed-in face that only a mother
could love and for that there’s even some doubters.
you know it’s true, my sister and brothers.
and it’s not enough to mask your feelings.
this time they’ve got you hanging from the ceiling.
it takes a strong bite out of your soul
and last time you checked you weren’t safe at home.
and you’re gonna get through. you’re gonna get through this. you’re gonna get through like this wasn’t happening to you.
this internet you love, you thought it gave you a voice
like coke or pepsi, illusion of choice.
every false headline lives forever
in a chaos of questions that binds us all together.
was it the russians who put you up to this?
the devil made you do it and sealed it with a kiss.
the antifa walks with supremacists
and burns all the witches in street justice.
